Education and Training

Considerable new possibilities for the education and further training arise from the virtual reality techniques as described above. In air- and space technology flight simulators have been part and parcel for a long time. In contrast to that in medicine currently no other than "training-on-the-job" is being practiced once physicians graduated. It is known and generally approved that the number of surgical interventions, in other words the training of the surgeon has significant influence on the outcome of an operation. Comparable to the strict quality managment in space and air industry, also medicine requires operating simulators with feed back to ensure a continous training as a precondition of surgery (medical multimedia continuing education programs, training by simulation of minimally invasive techniques, etc.).
