Prevention of Restenosis
Local drug delivery (stent
coating)
- Hypothesis
Based on the forementioned facts, Ang II blockade might be a
usefull approach to prevent neointimal formation after balloon
angioplasty.
- Basic problem
Until now, all pharmacological approaches to prevent restenosis
have failed to demonstrate sufficiant efficacy. Sufficiant local
drug concentration may be a crucial point.
- Local drug delivery systems
might be a promising way, but only coated stents are suitable
enough to realize local drug release.
