Alternative strategies
- Stent Coating, local drug delivery, surface structure of stents -

  • VEGF delivery from a local catheter after stent implantation.
  • Coating with platinum or gold induced markedly less neointima formation than coating with copper.
  • Local gene transfer with VEGF accelerate stent endothelialization, thereby reducing in-stent thrombus and obstruction due to intimal thickening.
  • Other devices: double balloon catheter, porus balloon catheter, needle catheter, hydrogel catheter, etc..
  • Heparin coated stents: BENESTENT II
  • Radioactive stents
  • Methylprednisolone coated stents
